Despite an impressive summer, Nunez had been limited to two brief cameos from the bench during the opening fortnight of the Premier League campaign, evidently fifth in the pecking order of Klopp’s forward options.
Hardly the impact the striker would have wanted at the start of what is likely to be a pivotal season of his time with the Reds.
So it was with a sense of purpose that, with 13 minutes of normal time remaining and 10-man Liverpool 1-0 down to Newcastle United, Nunez trotted on.
