Linfield captain Jamie Mulgrew has asked Blues fans to show respect
Linfield manager David Healy and club captain Jamie Mulgrew have pleaded with the supporters to stop the unacceptable chanting which has resulted in Irish FA sanctions.
The Blues were punished for a racist comment from one supporter towards Loughgall player Pablo Andrade and also fined for sectarian singing during games away at Cliftonville and Larne.
Linfield received a suspended one-game ban on away supporters that will be activated by the IFA if there is further sectarian chanting before the end of February.
The club was fined £2,000 for the fans’ behaviour at Solitude on October 20 and £1,000 for the Larne clash at Inver Park on September 15.
Linfield also received a £1,000 fine after Andrade was the victim of racist abuse during a Premiership fixture at Windsor Park on October 28.
The Blues have already banned two supporters for life this season — one for offensive chanting and another for disorderly behaviour — and, ahead of Friday’s Premiership clash at home to Coleraine, Healy and Mulgrew called on fans to ensure the club’s reputation is not damaged further.
In a video shared by the club, former Northern Ireland striker Healy commented: “Our success as a team is not just measured on the pitch, but also the strength of our fanbase, your passion, dedication and unwavering support are the driving forces that motivate our players and myself to give our all in every match.
