David Moyes sets Jarrod Bowen ambitious West Ham goal challenge with Haaland and Salah in sight

West Ham manager David Moyes has set a challenge for star forward Jarrod Bowen. The Hammers boss has expressed his demand for the England international to be the first player to score 20 goals in a Premier League season for the East London club.

Bowen netted his 14th of the campaign after netting a hat-trick during Monday night's 4-2 victory against Brentford. Only title-chasing Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah have more goals this season.

The 27-year-old is just two goals away from equalling Paolo Di Canio's club record of 16, which was set in the 1999-2000 season. And the former Manchester United manager believes Bowen has a hunger to score goals.

«I've said several times I see it in Jarrod. I think he's so keen to score goals,» said Moyes at a press conference. «I look into his eyes and I think he's got goals, he's enjoying the feeling of being a goalscorer.

»He's looking like he can be a goalscorer and I'm sensing someone who's on that route. If he's not scoring we can move him back because he can play the two roles.

«But I just get that feeling about him that he's hungry to score more goals.»

Moyes stated that he had not officially set Bowen a target, but reaching 20 goals would establish an impressive record for any forward at West Ham. He added: «I haven't told him that. But there you go, I've probably just set him a target.»

Bowen will have the chance to add more goals when West Ham face Everton on Saturday. The Toffees are in action for the first time since their points deduction was reduced from 10 to six this week.
