By the time Arsenal welcome Liverpool to the Emirates Stadium next weekend, the January transfer window will have been open for six days.
This leaves the Gunners with plenty of time to have any potential new signings — amid links to Jorrel Hato, Dominic Solanke, Douglas Luiz, Ivan Toney, Goncalo Inacio and Ousmane Diomande just to name a few — available for selection for the huge FA Cup third-round tie.
How much business Arsenal can conclude next month remains to be seen as an outlay of £200million in the summer is likely to restrict them to loan deals — unless a big sale or two is completed. Nevertheless, Mikel Arteta has confirmed the club have identified their targets already.
«We have certain targets, ideas if things happen,» he told reporters earlier in the week. «As well, we don’t know how the squad is going to look in two weeks time and you have to be always prepared for that. But it is a very, very tricky market that shifts very quickly and it is quite unpredictable as well — and you have to be prepared.
»We will be prepared and we will try to make the right calls. If there is something that we can [do to] improve the squad and that needs appear, and we cannot fulfil it with players here, we are always going to be open to do that because we want to be stronger."
With this in mind, there's an upcoming deadline that the Arsenal manager and sporting director Edu Gaspar are surely keeping in mind as it will almost certainly have a major impact should a deal be struck in the coming days for the club's first signing of the January transfer window.
