Dennis Bergkamp reveals his 'DREAM' plans to 'buy a League One club'

Dennis Bergkamp has revealed he still holds strong ambitions to own an English football club after previously failing in his bid to buy Wycombe Wanderers and more recently Arsenal.

The Gunners legend has previously spoken passionately about his hopes of becoming an investor in a top professional club in England, but has twice failed before.

Bergkamp is widely-regarded as one of the Premier League's greatest-ever strikers and has outlined his plans to gain control of a team in the EFL that he hopes to guide to the English top-flight.

The Dutchman was once close to gaining control of Wycombe while being supported by a collective of former players and team-mates, including Dirk Kuyt, Ronald Koeman and Henrik Larsson, before the deal fell through as the club favoured another buyer.

However, their inspiration to become owners of a team have remained, with Bergkamp telling the Mirror that he hopes to purchase a League One team.

'Wycombe Wanderers was a nice project - and we were very far along with it. It only fell through at the end,' he said.

'Together with Phillip Cocu, Ronald Koeman, Dirk Kuyt, Henrik Larsson and (agent) Rob Jansen we were going to buy the shares.

'It is still a dream of mine to develop players, run an academy, and use all our knowledge and experience to get promoted.

'Not with a foreign billionaire who puts in a lot of money just to go up quickly. If you have a group of former top footballers together then you just start lower.

'I am convinced that with a club in League One, with real football knowledge, you can get promoted to the Championship within five years, 10 years at most,' he added.
