Paddy McLaughlin has left Derry City
Six weeks after he was stood down from first team affairs, Derry City have finally confirmed the departure of assistant manager Paddy McLaughlin.
McLaughlin, who was appointed as the Candystripes’ assistant manager in April, was stood down after a meeting with boss Ruaidhrí Higgins before Christmas. However, the former Cliftonville manager remained on the club’s books until this week.
In a statement, the Brandywell club said: “Derry City FC can confirm that Paddy McLaughlin will leave the club by mutual consent.
“We wish Paddy every success in his next role, and we would hope to see him at the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium supporting his hometown club when his schedule allows.”
Before leaving to join City, McLaughlin had been in charge of Cliftonville since 2019 and helped the Reds win the League Cup and County Antrim Shield during his time at the helm. The Solitude club narrowly missed out on the Premiership title in 2022, finishing one point behind eventual champions Linfield.
The 44-year-old has been linked with a move to Seaview, with legendary Crusaders manager Stephen Baxter set to retire at the end of the season.
