Donut shop forced to close its doors after sales drop to '£40 a day'

Doogle’s Donuts has announced the closing of one of its branches after its sales dropped to £40 a day.

In a post on Instagram, the manager of the St Chad’s Drive shop, in Kirkby Town Centre, informed the public of its closure. The Instagram post reads: “It comes with a heavy heart to announce that our Kirkby shop will be closing its doors on November 30. Without going into so much detail, this shop is just not sustainable. As simple as too much going out and not enough coming in”.

Under the Instagram post, a number of customers expressed their sadness upon hearing about the closure. Michelle said: “Gutted we love our treats from there. Another customer Michael said: “Real shame BUT good business decision. All about the overheads! Good luck with the other shops." And Leanne added: “This is sad. We love your donuts."

The shop has been open for almost two years but business owners, Christian Anderson and Grace Hartley said recently customer footfall had dropped.

Christian told the Liverpool ECHO the Kirkby shop, which is a take-away business, “simply didn’t work out”. He claims, business rates and service charges were reportedly incredibly high for a small business.

He added: “The shop has been taking in as little as £40 a day. It’s not the product it’s just the location, as the other stores are exceeding this [in sales]”.

The shop in Kirkby Town Centre will close on November 30, but remains open every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 11am-4.30pm until it forever closes its doors.
