In yet another exciting tie in the DStv Premiership this week, Mamelodi Sundowns will host Stellenbosch FC at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium on Wednesday evening, with the Brazilians aiming to win their eighth straight match in the league.
Kick-off is at 7:30pm (SA, GMT+2)
The Tshwane-giants have laid down an early marker in the 2023/24 DStv Premiership, bagging seven wins on the trot in dominant fashion.
While Downs are praised for being a free scoring team, the reigning league champions have not conceded a goal in each of their last five league encounters.
Sundowns head into their next game on the back of a 3-2 aggregate win over Kaizer Chiefs in the MTN8 semifinals.
Prior to their match against the Glamour Boys, Downs bagged a 1-0 win over Orlando Pirates in the league, as Lucas Ribeiro Costa's penalty in the 12th minute secured maximum points at the Orlando Stadium.
Downs coach Rulani Mokwena believes that beating both Soweto giants in one week speaks volumes of his side’s togetherness.
“The victories [over Chiefs and Pirates] have incredible benefits in the sense that there’s a trust that starts to develop,” Mokwena said.
“We can trust each other in difficult moments and we can trust each other in difficult games.
“But it’s only three points on Wednesday and it’s only a place in the final. Nothing more than that, that’s the reality.
“It’s something we should never take for granted. Not many teams and not many Sundowns teams even in the past have been able to beat Chiefs and Pirates in the same week. Let alone in a space of four days.”
