Damien Duff’s Shelbourne may be jetting off to the continent next season – after a come-from-behind victory against 10-man Drogheda United ensured they have a vested interest in the FAI Cup final.
The side from Drumcondra require St Patrick’s Athletic to beat their near neighbours next Sunday. It will an anxious wait but improving on their sixth place placing last season should still be commended.
They arrived at Weavers Park knowing a fourth place finish – and possible European qualification – was in their own hands. A win over Drogheda United would secure it, regardless of what Dundalk or Bohemians could muster elsewhere.
