Not much he could have done about Wout Weghorst’s early goal. Made a number of stops but unconvincing technique when fortunately keeping Tijjani Reijnders’ shot out. 6
Dara O’Shea
Eyebrows raised when he started on the right rather than the middle of the back three. Defensively did OK but he was one of many who struggled to find team-mates with poor passing range. 5
Nathan Collins
Turned far too easily by Weghorst for the Dutch goal and was guilty of giving the ball away cheaply on more than one occasion. Poor performance from a player who has been in really good club form. 4
Liam Scales
Appeared uncertain how closely he should have been marking the rapid Xavi Simons. Remains on a steep learning curve at this level. Cleared to continue after a concussion check following a clash of heads with Simons. 5
Matt Doherty
Given the captain’s armband, the Wolves full-back made one notable dribble forward late in the first half. However, he was culpable of a couple of inexplicably poor passes too. 5
Alan Browne
Good early chance but sent it straight down the goalkeeper’s throat. That would prove Ireland’s only shot on target. The Preston midfielder battled out of possession but, like everyone in green around him, he was ineffective. 5
Josh Cullen
Produced one nice exchange of passes with Adam Idah midway through the second period only for the striker to be offside anyway. Beyond that, there was very little of note from his performance. 5

Sloppy control and distribution allowed the Netherlands to break on a couple of occasions in the first half. Otherwise average. Substituted late on. 5
