Former Chelsea hero Chris Sutton has argued that Eddie Nketiah's lack of ruthlessness is what is stopping the Arsenal striker from becoming elite. Nketiah netted his first-ever Premier League hat-trick over the weekend during his side’s 5-0 win against Sheffield United.
The Hale End academy graduate broke the deadlock shortly before the half-hour mark with a clinical finish from close range. He then doubled the north Londoners’ lead with another penalty box finish shortly after the break.
The England international then completed his hat-trick a few minutes later via a powerful long-range strike. Nketiah then could have had his fourth when Mikel Arteta's side won a penalty but the 24-year-old allowed Fabio Vieira to take it instead.
The talented playmaker then tucked the spot-kick away before dedicating the goal to his pregnant partner. Speaking about his decision, Nketiah said: «I was on it, I was going to take it but Fabio, it's a special moment for him.
»I think he's expecting a baby and he won the penalty. He asked if I can take it and I said of course, it's a team sport — I've got three so…"
Despite the touching generosity, Sutton claimed that the gesture is what separates the Arsenal frontman from Premier League legends, such as Alan Shearer and Ian Wright. «We have discussed the penalty situation at the weekend,» Sutton said on the It’s All Kicking Off Podcast.
