EFL League One 2023/24 relegation odds with Fleetwood Town favourites for the drop

Fleetwood Town have been priced as the bookies favourite for the drop ahead of the new EFL League One season. Scott Brown's side finished 13th last season as Plymouth Argyle — who were tipped more likely for the drop than to go up — produced a shock title-winning season to secure a place in the Championship.

The club were in a fairly respectable position before a situation off-the-pitch involving owner Andy Pilley which saw the former chairman convicted for fraud. The situation has left the Lancashire club in a turbulent situation this summer with many questions than answers for all involved at the club.

Elsewhere, Cheltenham Town and newly-promoted side Carlisle United are both priced for a difficult season with Paul Simpson looking to exceed expectation after guiding his hometown club to a memorable play-off final win back in May. Wade Elliott's job over Gloucestershire meanwhile has been nothing short of impressive and often not noted as much as it should have been. With the arrivals of Curtis Davies and Luke Southwood in goal they could be enough to avoid the drop again.

We could possibly see a back-to-back relegation with Reading returning to League One since 2002 with the Royals under a transfer embargo and wage restrictions putting the club in a difficult recruiting position. Their financial situation could come back to haunt them again after they failed to pay their players on time on three separate occasions last season and could result in a points deduction this time if history were to repeat itself.
