Joy and jubilation mixed as Glentoran Women revelled in the moment as they became Sports Direct Women’s Premiership champions.
The Glens 3-0 win over Crusaders Strikers means that defending champions Cliftonville Ladies can no longer overtake them and even if the teams were to finish level on points Glentoran’s superior head-to-head record, thanks to scoring twice in the away game at Solitude earlier in the season, is enough to take the crown.
After 15 wins out of 17, with the only points dropped being in the two drawn encounters with Cliftonville there is no question that the Glens are worthy champions.
After it looked like they might crawl over the line, they powered to the title in the end with a super second-half display at Seaview.
They had struggled to make the breakthrough throughout the first half, but struck early in the second.
Demi Vance scored the opener three minutes into the second half, when the referee ignored an offside flag and protests from Beth Chalmers and awarded the goal, which the Northern Ireland international finished neatly from 12 yards out.
