Glentoran Women celebrate winning the Sports Direct Premiership (Andrew McCarroll/Pacemaker Press)
Glentoran Women have secured the Sports Direct Women’s Premiership with one match to spare after a 3-0 victory over Crusaders Strikers.
A second-half double from Demi Vance either side of Emily Wilson scoring against her former club sealed the win that means defending champions Cliftonville Ladies can no longer retain their crown.
Vance scored the first three minutes into the second half, when the referee ignored an offside flag and awarded the goal, which the Northern Ireland international finished neatly from 12 yards out.
There were protests too about the Glens’ second, with Crusaders claiming that the ball hadn’t crossed the line when Wilson’s effort from outside the box came down off the underside of the crossbar before Maddy Harvey-Clifford clawed the ball back.
There was no doubt about Vance’s third, though, finished clinically inside the box in injury time.
Earlier Cliftonville had done all that they could in a 4-1 win over Sion Swifts Ladies.
Caitlin McGuinness scored in each half, with Marissa Callaghan netting in between. After Tara O’Connor-Farren pulled one back for Sion Swifts in injury time, Kirsty McGuinness struck an even later fourth for the Reds.
