Everton boss Sean Dyche has had his say on a 'horrid' night for his side after a 6-0 drubbing at the hands of Chelsea on Monday night. Cole Palmer netted a hat-trick inside half-an-hour before Nicolas Jackson netted Chelsea's fourth one minute before half-time.
Palmer scored again, this time from the penalty spot four minutes after the hour mark before boyhood Blues fan Alfie Gilchrist rounded off the scoring in injury time. Everton are now mired in relegation trouble with only two points separating them from Luton Town in 18th place ahead of a huge clash with 17th placed Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
With only one win in 15 games, Dyche is under pressure with financial worries off the pitch also mounting for his side. «It's miles off where we want to be,» he said. «There's no excuses for that. Miles off the mark, miles from where we've been.»
«The goals were alarmingly poor, it's just simple tackling, reading and anticipating the game. „The basics were out the window, a horrid night without a shadow of a doubt.“
Despite Everton being hit for six, the big story of the night was the dispute between Noni Madueke, Nicolas Jackson and Conor Gallagher over Palmer's penalty. Madueke wanted to take it but Gallagher pulled rank and handed the ball to the in-form Palmer, who slotted home from 12 yards for his 20th goal of the season.
»The players know, the club knows that Palmer is the penalty-taker," said Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino, who was visibly agitated during his post-match duties. «I'm so, so upset about the situation. In every country people are watching the game and we cannot send this type of image.
