Gibbs-White was able to walk off the pitch after several minutes of treatment but serious concern remained around the condition of Beto.
A stretcher was brought on for the striker as his treatment continued, with teammates staying by Beto’s side. Home fans sang Beto’s name while he needed help and he was applauded off the pitch, where he was taken off at the vehicle entrance to the inner stadium and not in the direction of the tunnel.
The collision came at the start of nine minutes of stoppage time and with Everton leading their relegation rivals 2-0. Beto had been a second half substitute for Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
