As it turned out, the Seagulls played a major role in the Blues' Premier League survival. When meeting in this exact fixture in what was first match of the current calendar year, the gulf was massive and Brighton stormed to a 4-1 rout. Everton have won five of their last seven, most recently to progress to the Carabao Cup quarter finals, whereas Brighton are winless in domestic competitions since September 24.
Taking all of this into account, a number of pundits have attempted to place their predictions ahead of the weekend's Premier League action.
