Sky Ireland are believed to be about to extend their sponsorship of the FAI to cover the men’s squad.
Chief executive Jonathan Hill has faced criticism for failing to land a core partner since Three ended their 10-year partnership amid the corporate governance crisis of 2019.
He informed delegates at an EGM on February 10 that an announcement was “imminent”.
The FAI were in discussions with various potential partners, including financial corporates, but it’s understood the long-awaited deal is simply an expansion of the Sky portfolio which began with the women’s squad in September 2021.
The first men’s internationals of 2024 take place over the next week, both at home, against Belgium on Saturday and Switzerland four days later, with a new home jersey due to be unveiled on Wednesday.
Another telecommunications firm, BT, signed a five-year £60m deal to become the main sponsor of all 28 England football teams in June 2019. They have similar partnerships with Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
