Fans should fear Harry Kane exit as it could be like transfer that ‘killed Tottenham’

Harry Kane leaving could be just like the transfer that 'killed Tottenham', according to talkSPORT's Jamie O'Hara.

Bayern Munich have already seen two bids rejected and Tottenham are in a battle to hold on to their record scorer.

With just a year left on his Spurs contract, Kane appears to have his heart set on leaving the club and could be this summer or next.

Despite being heavily linked with the Bavarian giants, chairman Daniel Levy remains unwilling to sell.

His resolve could still be tested if more bids come in from Bayern.

Former Spurs midfielder O'Hara is fearful his departure could have the same profoundly negative effect on the club as Dimitar Berbatov's exit.

Berbatov joined Man United on transfer deadline day in 2008, with Spurs then failing to record a win in their first eight matches of the new season.

«It absolutely killed us,» O'Hara said on Sports Breakfast.

«Losing him was one of the biggest things that derailed us, and the manager ended up paying for it, he got sacked.

»We really struggled without Berbatov, and he obviously went to Man United.

«He kicked up a fuss, he wanted to leave, and he did, he got out. But it really affected the team. That is what I am worried about with Tottenham.

»'If Harry Kane goes, what is the plan?

"'How are you spending the money? Who are you brining in?

«I look at it in a situation where Daniel Levy has been holding on to him for some time, desperate to keep him.

»He is a huge player in the team, and he keeps asking him to sign a new contract, if he does not sign it and we do let him go, I am worried where Spurs will end up.

«I don't think we have a plan in place, that is the big worry for me. Without Kane, if you get rid of him, what is the plan?

»And Spurs haven't got one."'
