The grass isn’t always greener on the other side, so the old proverb goes.
Liverpool’s three former players who traded Anfield for lucrative moves to Saudi Arabia in the summer are now perhaps finding that out the hard way.
Having announced his decision to leave the Reds at the end of his contract, Roberto Firmino joined Al-Ahli on a free transfer at the start of July. Come the end of the month, following unexpected interest from Al-Ettifaq and Al-Ittihad, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho would join the forward in the Middle East in £12m and £40m moves respectively.

The trio won all there was to win when enjoying their peak years with Liverpool. And while Henderson received expected backlash for his own move to the Gulf State, their decision to complete big-money moves to Saudi Arabia was understandable.
But four months on from such transfers, it has been far from plain sailing for Firmino, Henderson, and Fabinho since moving to pastures new.
With Saudi clubs allowed to register a maximum total of eight foreign players, some reports are suggesting that Al-Ahli could already look to move on Firmino in January. The Brazilian scored a hat-trick for the club on his debut against Al-Hazem, but has failed to find the back of the net since with his current drought standing at 12 matches, with some fans turning against him and wanting him sold as a result.
Al-Ahli currently sit fourth in the Saudi Pro League table, seven points behind league-leaders Al-Hilal. But they are at least faring better than Fabinho and Henderson at Al-Ettifaq and Al-Ittihad respectively.
