Former Bayern boss emerges as a surprise name under consideration by Liverpool
Niko Kovac is emerging as a surprise name under consideration by Liverpool.
The former Bayern Munich and Monaco boss is available after leaving Wolfsburg earlier this season.
Liverpool have still to begin formal negotiations with contenders as they look to replace Jurgen Klopp in the summer but are conducting a robust research process as they collect information and data on their preferred candidates.
Sporting Lisbon's Ruben Amorim is a leading candidate but, despite reports, has denied that he has held talks or that anything has been agreed with Liverpool.
Kovac's representatives have been in London recently and are understood to have sounded out Premier League clubs ahead of potential managerial changes this summer.
The 52-year-old Kovac was born in Berlin, Germany but in a playing career as a stylish, defensive midfield player was captain of Croatia.
On moving into management, he won the German Cup with Eintracht Frankfurt in 2018 before claiming the league and cup double as Bayern Munich's head coach a year later. He also coached Monaco from 2020 to 2022.
However, his spell at Wolfsburg did not work out and he left in March.
Bundesliga clubs are also considering Kovac as interest mounts.
