Mark Stafford is in temporary charge at Ballinamallard
Former Linfield ace Mark Stafford has been placed in temporary charge of Ballinamallard United following the sacking of well-respected manager Harry McConkey.
McConkey’s departure was confirmed on Saturday morning, following the Mallards’ 0-0 draw away to Annagh United on Friday. Club captain Stafford will serve as the Ducks’ interim manager, with help from coach James McKenna, until a permanent replacement for McConkey is found.
The Co Fermanagh club find themselves 10th in the Playr-Fit Championship, 11 points clear of basement side Knockbreda, who are still to earn a single point following a 5-1 home defeat to Bangor yesterday.
Jack Henderson opened the scoring for the Seasiders within 30 seconds of kick-off before Lewis Harrison and Adam Neale added further goals before the half-time break.
Premiership loanees Sean Brown and Lewis Francis added to Bangor’s tally in the second period before Matt Henry scored a consolation in stoppage time.
At Inver Park, Portadown moved into second with a 2-0 win over Newington. NIFWA Player of the Month Ryan Mayse broke the deadlock just before the break, with Ross Redman sealing the victory a minute from time.
The Ports trail League leaders Dundela by three points. On Friday night, the Duns defeated Harland and Wolff Welders 2-1 at a packed Wilgar Park in the east Belfast derby. Ciaran Dobbin and Andy Hall struck in the first half before Michael McLellan pulled one back for the Welders.
New Dergview boss Emmet Friars watched from the stands as caretaker boss Ivan Sproule guided the Co Tyrone club to a 2-2 draw at Dixon Park, where Jamie Browne and Ballyclare Comrades’ Darius Roohi both scored twice.
