Former Tottenham and West Ham boss Harry Redknapp lands first Cheltenham Festival winner

Harry Redknapp had a big smile on his face when his horse Shakem Up'Arry won a race at the Cheltenham Festival.

Just like famous football manager Sir Alex Ferguson, Harry got to celebrate a win at the horse racing event. On Thursday (March 14), Sir Alex was left delighted after he won two races in just 40 minutes.

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Redknapp, 77, had his horse, Shakem Up'Arry, at odds of 8-1 prior to the TrustATrader Plate Handicap Chase.

Shakem Up'Arry is 10 years old and had Ben Jones riding him. They crossed the finish line first, and it was the first time Harry won at Cheltenham, reports the Daily Star.

Ben Jones is only 24 and this was his first win at the festival too. After the race, Jones was very happy and said: «This lad gave me my first winner around Cheltenham and now he's given me my first festival winner...what a thrill!»

The West Ham icon was over the moon with his Cheltenham win, saying: «To have a winner at Cheltenham… I've watched it all my life, and always dreamed of it. To have a winner — one of the greatest days of my life.»

Redknapp's triumph capped off a sensational day, with the Manchester United legend Ferguson taking a cut of a £274,000 payday thanks to the consecutive victories of Monmiral and Protektorat.

After Monmiral's win, co-owner Ferguson was thrilled, saying: «That was fantastic. Brilliant. What a jockey, deary me, he was brilliant. It's my first winner here, John [Hales] is the master, he chooses the horses and we back him all the way».
