Former Tottenham star Rafael van der Vaart aims six-word dig at Arsenal keeper David Raya

Former Tottenham star Rafael van der Vaart has taken a huge swipe at Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya following the Gunners' 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday night.

Raya had only conceded four goals in 2024 prior to the meeting with the Bavarian giants but proceeded to concede twice in 90 minutes against the Bundesliga outfit. Former Gunner Serge Gnabry swept home an equaliser to Bukayo Saka's opener, before former Tottenham man Harry Kane converted from the penalty spot following a foul on Leroy Sane by William Saliba.

Substitute Leandro Trossard secured a draw in the second half, although things could have been very different had either side been awarded a penalty — Bayern for a handball by Gabriel Magalhaes and Arsenal for a foul on Saka by Manuel Neuer in the final seconds of the contest.

Raya was well off his line in the build-up to Bayern's first goal, leading to Gabriel giving the ball away. And he did not cover himself in any glory with the penalty converted by Kane either.

At least that is the view of Van der Vaart.

Kane admitted to changing his penalty technique as a result of doing his homework on Raya from the Champions League round of 16 penalty shootout win over Porto, while also delivering a North London Derby jibe at Arsenal. Normally Kane would pick his spot, get his head down and find it. This time he stuttered slightly, watching Raya, before coolly putting the spot-kick in the other corner.
