Having been without a club since his dismissal by Strasbourg midway through last season, Julien Stéphan could be set for a return to management, this time outside of France.
According to L’Équipe tonight, the coach is in talks with Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Ahli. The Jeddah-based side have notably brought in Édouard Mendy and Roberto Firmino this summer, and could add Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez to their squad as part of the Gulf state’s lucrative offensive on European football.
Earlier this summer, Stéphan had expressed an interest in the then-vacant Monaco job. He had also indicated that he was open to taking up a role in the Premier League, having been improving his English of late.
The former Rennes manager could instead become the latest French manager to work in Saudi Arabia, following Rudi Garcia’s stint in charge of Al-Nassr last season, during which the now-Napoli coach notably worked with Cristiano Ronaldo.
