George Wickens reckons his double penalty save at Celtic Park was the stuff of dreams - and that Joe Hart might just have played a part in making it come true.
Ross County’s on-loan Fulham keeper produced heroics to keep the champions’ lead down to a single goal on Saturday including twice denying Luis Palma from the spot. Wickens then revealed Celtic number one Hart is the man whose style his own game is based off after studying YouTube clips of the former England star growing up. The 22-year-old grabbed Hart’s shirt and the golden opportunity for a chat as they left the park together after the Hoops’ 1-0 win.
Now the Englishman is hoping to use the experience to help drive County away from the relegation zone. County keeper coach Scott Thomson was the actual brains behind the penalty heroics. But Wickens said: “Growing up Joe Hart was my idol in terms of watching him for England. I watched a number of YouTube clips on him, trying to base quite a lot of my game off him.
“To share the same pitch as him was a bit surreal. It probably hasn’t sunk in yet, but I managed to get his shirt at the end of the game which was nice. He was very supportive. We are at the same agency so he is aware of my situation and just told me to come up here and show what I can do.
“It was amazing. Over the last 18 months I haven’t played an awful lot of football, which has been frustrating. I was fortunate enough to be able to come up here and get an opportunity.
“It’s amazing place to play football, and it’s the sort of thing you dream of as a kid to come to a big place like this and perform. I had spoken to our goalkeeping coach about the penalties. We do our homework on it a couple of days before each game. On a Thursday we look through a number
