Tottenham next five fixtures compared to Aston Villa and Man United after Erik ten Hag slip up

Tottenham might not have been in action over the weekend but their rivals for the Champions League places have been and the complexion of the battle has changed once more. After Spurs were beaten at home last week it was advantage Aston Villa in the race to finish fourth, and Manchester United laid down a marker of their own too.

However, with Ange Postecoglou's side given a week off after their match with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge was postponed due to Carabao Cup final commitments for the Blues, things have shifted once more. Both United and Villa were involved in big games in the tussle to finish in the European places.

Erik ten Hag's men hosted Fulham and looked to have earned themselves a draw following a late equaliser. United had fallen behind in the second half courtesy of Calvin Bassey, but Harry Maguire found a leveller minutes from time despite controversy over whether he should even have been on the pitch.

Alex Iwobi won the game for the visitors with an even more dramatic goal not long after. It ended United's run of five wins in a row, and seven unbeaten in all competitions.

Meanwhile, Villa played relegation-threatened Nottingham Forest. Unai Emery's side stormed into a 3-0 lead before the break only to be pegged back by goals either side of half-time from Moussa Niakhate and Morgan Gibbs-White. Leon Bailey ensured that the three points would be staying in the Midlands though.

The results leave Tottenham three points above United, still in fifth place, but also five behind Villa. With the game in hand they can't move above the Villans but will be aiming to distance themselves from the Red Devils after a strong run of form had put them firmly back in the mix.
