Arsenal legend Ian Wright lands new job after announcing BBC exit
Arsenal icon Ian Wright will be joining Sky Sports on Monday Night Football this evening as their guest summariser alongside former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher.
Wright has been a regular on BBC's Match of the Day and has also worked for ITV Sport as a pundit during the FA Cup and England's men's and women's international matches. However, in December the former striker announced that he would be stepping down from his duties as a pundit on the highlights programme.
Explaining his decision, he wrote on Twitter: «After my debut show whilst still a player in 1997 and many more memorable years, I’ll be stepping back from BBC MOTD at the end of this season. I feel very privileged to have had such an incredible run on the most iconic football show in the world.»
At the beginning of this campaign, Wright was announced as a co-host on the Stick to Football podcast, brought to you by Sky Bet, alongside Sky Sports regulars; Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, Roy Keane and Jill Scott. This proved to be his first foray into punditry with the broadcaster and appears to have opened the door for him to make his debut on Monday Night Football tonight.
The in-depth analytical show has earned popularity for its more tactical approach to punditry and after the Chelsea vs Newcastle United game, Wright will delve into his impressive career. Before kick-off, we can expect Wright to look at the Gunners following their 2-1 win over Brentford which saw Mikel Arteta's side move to the top of the Premier League as well as the title race specifically after Manchester City's draw at Liverpool.
