Ian Wright has sent Mikel Arteta a warning in light of Arsenal's triumphant win over Porto in the Champions League round of 16. The Gunners clambered past the Portuguese giants on Tuesday night after extra time and a penalty shootout, booking themselves a ticket in the quarterfinals.
Arsenal could face either Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund or Atletico Madrid in the next round. The north Londoners will learn who they shall lock horns with on Friday, March 15, following a draw at 11am GMT in Nyon, Switzerland.
Arteta's side will also find out who they could face in the semi-final and the final, providing they progress, with the remainder of the competition set to be mapped out. The first legs of the quarterfinals will be held on April 9 and 10, with the second legs to commence a week later on April 16 and 17.
Speaking on the Wrighty’s House podcast, Wright highlighted Jorginho as a weak link in the Arsenal lineup which faced Porto on Tuesday evening. The former Chelsea ace was replaced by Gabriel Jesus in the final minutes of the second half despite being a recognised penalty specialist.
And, Wright believes that Jorginho could be targeted in future rounds of the Champions League. He said: «The problem I feel we might have is that if Jorginho is playing in those games – I think the more that’s on the line and the more we need to control games, the more Jorginho has a chance of playing.
»So, I think people will cater for him. And people will watch this game and think hmm… In the end, they took Jorginho off and remember, he’s a penalty taker.
