Ghana FA confirm Thomas Partey injury blow ahead of Arsenal vs Man United
Thomas Partey has picked up an injury ahead of Arsenal's fixture against Manchester United, as per the Ghanaian Football Association
The Ghana Football Association have confirmed that Arsenal star Thomas Partey has suffered an injury in training.
Partey was left out of Chris Hughton's squad for the upcoming international break, with a statement now released claiming that the 30-year-old could be out for a while. It read: "Arsenal ace Thomas Partey is left out of the squad due to injury.
"According to his club, the player picked up an injury in training and could be on the sidelines for a while, however the Black Stars medical teams is monitoring the situation." It remains to be seen what exactly the issue is but it now seems that Partey will miss Sunday's Premier League clash against Manchester United.
The former Atletico Madrid man had been deployed as an inverted right-back during his side's first three games of the 2023/24 Premier League campaign. It is a major blow for Gunners boss Mikel Arteta considering versatile defender Jurrien Timber picked up an ACL injury against Nottingham Forest last month.
That means the Dutch international, who joined from Ajax earlier this summer, is unlikely to feature for the majority of the season, leaving the north Londoners short of numbers at the back. Despite Timber's issue, Arsenal still allowed the likes of Nuno Tavares and Rob Holding to leave on transfer deadline day.
Left-back Tavares joined Forest on a season-long loan whilst Holding left for Crystal Palace in a permanent deal. Steve Cooper's side will have a £12million option to buy the Portugal Under-21 international whilst Holding's departure secured the Gunners around £4million in total.
