Harry Kane off the mark in the Bundesliga as Bayern waltz to first victory of the season

Bayern thrashed Werder Bremen to begin its latest title defense

The internet may have had a little fun at Harry Kane's expense last weekend, but Friday served as a reminder that the England captain is likely to get the last laugh as he begins life at Bayern Munich.

Bayern may have fallen to defeat in the German Supercup last weekend, but the 11-time defending Bundesliga champions quickly reasserted their dominance in matchday one of the new season by beating Werder Bremen 4-0. Kane set up Bayern's first goal of the night, assisting Leroy Sane just four minutes into the match, and he got on the scoresheet himself with 15 minutes remaining.

Kane's debut against RB Leipzig in the Supercup didn't go well, as the forward came off the bench and could do little to improve his side's fortunes as they lost 3-0. But Friday was different. Head coach Thomas Tuchel handed Kane the start in his first-ever Bundesliga appearance, and he immediately rewarded the boss's faith.

With 74 minutes gone, left-back Alphonso Davies charged up the left flank and spotted Kane in a pocket of space to his right. Davies played a simple pass to the new #9, who evaded four backtracking defenders, took a couple steps, and accurately slotted the ball past Werder Bremen goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka with his right foot.

The Rekordmeister effectively wrapped up the three points with Kane's strike, but just for good measure, Tuchel's men added two more goals in stoppage time through Sane and Mathys Tel.

In a video shared with his social media followers after full-time, Kane expressed his happiness at Bayern's «amazing» start to the new league season.
