Thierry Henry has admitted to AFP that he is yet to contact Kylian Mbappé (25) to discuss his potential participation for France at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
The France U21s manager, who will be responsible for selecting the team to represent Les Bleus at their home Olympics, has confirmed that he is yet to have a conversation with the France captain. In quotes captured by Le Parisien, Henry said Mbappé has a “special place” in the squad but confirmed he “had not yet contacted” the PSG attacker.
Commenting further on Mbappé’s potential participation in the 2024 Olympics, the former Monaco manager said “There is a difference between wanting and being able to. I don’t know where he will end up but the club will have a say.” Henry also spoke about the overall composition of his squad and said he had positive meetings with Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 clubs.
In a recent interview with GQ, Mbappé softened his previous stance of playing in the Olympics being a “childhood dream” but still said he would like to participate if he is asked to. Speaking on the possibility of playing at the Paris games, the 25-year-old said, “I’ve reached a stage in my life and career where I don’t want to force things any more. If I’m asked, I’d love to go, but if that’s not possible, I’ll understand.”
