INSPIRAL can give retiring Frankie Dettori a final victory in the Virgin Sun Chariot Stakes (British Champions Series) (Fillies & Mares) (3.15pm) at Newmarket on Saturday afternoon.
Having been disappointed in bidding to land a final victory in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and at ParisLonghcamp last weekend he can grab just a second victory in the Group One feature at Headquarters before he hangs up his riding boots at the end of the year. It could also be the popular Italian’s 500th success at Newmarket’s two tracks as he landed a 499th success last weekend. Strangely Dettori has only won the Sun Chariot once before back when partnering the Luca Cumani-trained Red Slippers to glory in Sheikh Mohammed’s old purple and white colours. But this time the John and Thady Gosden-trained Inspiral should prove too good for her rivals and give Dettori another success at the top level.
The talented Cheveley Park Stud-owned daughter of Frankel is supremely talented when on her game. She was unbeaten as a juvenile, culminating in victory in the Group One bet365 over course and distance at Newmarket in October 2021. She missed her shot at Classic glory last May, but was superb when winning the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot before a shock defeat to Prosperous Voyage in the Falmouth Stakes. She was beaten back at the Royal meeting when behind Triple Time in the Queen Anne Stakes and had no answer to the mighty Paddington in soft conditions in the Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood when she tried to take Aidan O’Brien’s multiple Group One star early and ended up last of the five runners. But she was impressive when landing the Prix du Haras de Fresnay-le-Buffard Jaques Les Marious for a second successive season at Deauville last
