SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt said he feared a bounce back from beleaguered Cape Town Spurs after a change of coach and so was therefore delighted with his side’s come-from-behind 2-1 win at the Athlone Stadium on Wednesday.
SuperSport moved into second spot in the DStv Premiership, on 16 points from eight matches after their fifth win of the season.
They went behind early but Bradley Grobler scored twice in the second half to turn around the result.
“I’m happy with the result because I said to the players before today, ‘you know what happens when teams change a manager, there's always an upturn, there's always a little bit more, you know, anywhere in the world’,” said the SuperSport coach.
Spurs had Vasili Manousakis on the bench in place of Shaun Bartlett, who was fired on Monday.
Manousakis was named as assistant coach with a new head coach expected to be announced in the coming days.
“It was dangerous to play them and then they went ahead after five minutes. They dug in their heels and made it difficult for us, but we had some opportunities,” added Hunt.
Hunt said they had changed formation to a back three after only 10 minutes to try and get back into the game.
“It wasn’t a coaching master stroke though. We looked much better but then, obviously, we didn't have the right players to play that way. So I had to bring young Kenan Bezuidenhout on. He's got a lot about him, but obviously he is really inexperienced. But he came on and did well. We changed the way we played, and triedto force them back a little bit, which worked.”
