Eric Cantona cemented his place as a Manchester United legend during his playing career, now he's attempting to carve himself a place in the music industry.
United fans often reminisce about the Frenchman, renowned for oozing confidence and his technical ability images of his iconic pose are still seen at Old Trafford — 26 years after hanging up his boots.
He is often named as one of the best players the club has ever had, a driving force for the Red Devils during their dominance of the Premier League in the early 1990s.
But the forward left Sir Alex Ferguson downhearted — and made millions of fans sob — when he decided to retire at the age of 30 in 1997 because he wanted to do something else with his life.
Speaking to Chris Evans on Virgin Radio, Cantona said: «I think he knew that I will not come back anymore.
»Maybe he was a bit disappointed, but when I take a decision, I never come back on it. Never.
“I'm very impulsive sometimes, but this kind of decision, I had to think about it before.
«I try to do things that excite me a lot, and football excited me a lot, and, at the end, it wasn't like before. So I tried something else.”
To retire at the age of 30 without any medical problems is not your usual path for such a talented footballer as Cantona, but he was not your usual player.
Since walking away, he has turned his hand to other avenues of life such as acting and painting and is now preparing to release a four-track EP named Make My Own Heaven.
Speaking about his other careers post football, he said: “I'm not passionate about a certain kind of art, just the need to express myself.
»So everything has helped me. It can be paintings, it can be music, it can be writing, it can be cinema, it can be theatre.
