Ineos and Sir Jim Ratcliffe are on something of a watching brief this month.
Their 25 per cent Manchester United investment was confirmed on Christmas Eve but still needs to be ratified by the Premier League. With Ratcliffe set to head up all football-related matters and Dave Brailsford and Jean-Claude Blanc set to play an active role, the winds of change may soon be sweeping through Old Trafford.
It won’t be before time either with the club something or a rudderless recruitment ship splashing out on players with seemingly little or no joined up thinking.

United have spent £300millon recently on a clutch of players who have offered precious little return on investment. Donny van de Beek has already been shipped out at a loss with a move to German club Eintracht Frankfurt this month. The deal is initially a loan but the Bundesliga club have the option to buy the Dutchman for €11m rising to €14m.
Jadon Sancho, exiled by Ten Hag, is set to follow Van de Beek out on loan with former club Borussia Dortmund close to agreeing a deal, although there will be no option to buy in that transfer leaving United with a hefty fee to try and recoup down the line.
There are questions around the futures of Casemiro and Raphael Varane despite both having a largely positive impact during their United appearances. Both have had their injury issues and both cost the Reds hefty fees on big wages. The club will listen to offers for the pair of them this month albeit neither is likely to depart. It's not a ringing endorsement of nearly £100million worth of talent.
