Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has provided an update on Kylian Mbappé (25) following his injury scare in the Coupe de France victory against Stade Brestois.
Mbappé was subject to a horror tackle from Lillian Brassier (24) as the defender mistimed his lunge. However, despite what looked like worrying scenes for Mbappé, the forward was able to continue and finish the game.
Speaking after the match Luis Enrique explained that “doctors would observe him… he took a big hit to his ankle, but he was able to finish the match, and I don’t think it was very serious.” These comments will reassure PSG before their approaching contest against Real Sociedad in the Last 16 of the Champions League.
Luis Enrique was pleased to see the last of Brest for this season, as he heaped praise on his opposition. “I first want to congratulate the Brest manager, Eric Roy, and his players, especially the way they performed against us. The good news is that we will no longer play against them this season.”
Brest have yet to defeat Les Parisiens this season but have provided three stern tests for their more fancied opposition, as they continue onto what could be a historic season for a club that has never finished above 8th place in the top division.
The PSG manager continued, “Our defensive attitude has improved a lot more. We pressed a lot. We also scored a goal this way. But, I repeat, Brest is one of the best teams in Europe in terms of intensity, better than many teams we met in the Champions League.”
Luis Enrique finished by highlighting the newfound flexibility in his side’s approach, and their ability to suffer as well as delight, “I want my team to press high, but if we have to defend low, we will defend low and score in transition.
