Chelsea star Sam Kerr pleads not guilty to racially aggravated harassment of police officer

Chelsea striker Sam Kerr will stand trial next year after pleading not guilty to alleged racially aggravated harassment of a police officer. The Australia international appeared in court on Monday after being charged with using insulting, threatening or abusive words that caused alarm or distress to a police officer during an incident in Twickenham on January 30.

The Daily Mail reports that the 30-year-old will now face a criminal trial that is scheduled to take place next year. And the report says that two police officers will be expected to give evidence against the Blues ace.

Kerr, according to the report, appeared at Kingston crown court via video link, spoke only to confirm her name and to enter a not guilty plea to the charge. In a statement, the Metropolitan police said: “Samantha Kerr, 30 (10.09.93) of Richmond was charged via postal charge requisition on 21 January with a racially aggravated offence under Section 4A Public Order Act 1986.

“The charge relates to an incident involving a police officer who was responding to a complaint involving a taxi fare on 30 January 2023 in Twickenham.”

Kerr is expected to go to trial in February next year. The trial is due to last four days.

The forward — who has netted 69 goals in 128 appearances for Chelsea — is currently out of action for the long term after injuring her ACL during a warm weather training camp in January. She's already set to miss the rest of the current season, with Emma Hayes' side well in the hunt for a fifth straight Women's Super League crown.

Kerr has also won the
