Mikel Arteta sends clear title message to Arsenal players with Liverpool and Man City in sight

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was delighted with his side's 6-0 victory over Sheffield United but has urged his players to keep the pressure on the top two. The Gunners are in third place in the Premier League but are now just one point behind Manchester City and two points behind Liverpool.

Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Martinelli and a Jayden Bogle own goal made it 3-0 to Arsenal within the opening 15 minutes before Kai Havertz and Declan Rice made it 5-0 at half-time. Ben White added a sixth in the second half to cap off a sensational away performance.

Speaking after the match, Arteta insisted his players must take one game at a time, with Brentford next up for the Gunners. “I loved the way the team played, the quality we showed and the aggression without the ball,” he told Sky Sports.

“We have to continue doing what we are doing. We have to do our business and win our games, that’s all we can do. Now it is Brentford.” On the importance of having a superior goal difference to their title rivals Liverpool and Manchester City, the Spaniard added: “I don’t know, it will be crucial if we win the remainder of the games.”

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard admitted they were in a “good mood” following the win. “We’ve done really good from the start, controlled the game, and when we had the ball we were in a good mood today. It was a solid and nice performance,” he told Sky Sports.

“We wanted to keep the momentum going. Every game is crucial. You see how tight it is at the top of the table.”
