Declan Rice has made his feelings on Kobbie Mainoo clear after the young star made his England debut against Brazil. Manchester United midfielder Mainoo, who is only 18, came off the bench in the last 15 minutes of the match against Brazil at Wembley Stadium.
Mainoo slotted in nicely alongside Rice in central midfield, with Phil Foden ahead of them in the No.10 role. Showing some nice touches and good awareness throughout the match, Mainoo appears to have impressed Arsenal star Rice.
The teenager wrote on Instagram after the game: «Special feeling making my senior @England debut at Wembley and in front of my family. A moment I will never forget. Now we bounce back and refocus for Tuesday.»
Several of his teammates from England and Manchester United took to the comments, including Rice. The Arsenal midfielder said: «Many more to come! Congrats bro,» with a clapping hand and a heart.
United captain Bruno Fernandes added: «First of many,» alongside a raising hands emoji. Harry Maguire said: «Deserved mate,» while Luke Shaw commented: «What a player.» Cole Palmer, James Maddison, Teden Mengi and Alejandro Garnacho also congratulated Mainoo.
Speaking after the match, England manager Gareth Southgate explained why he decided to give Mainoo his debut. «Kobbie was a chance to dip his toes,» the England boss said.
