An emotional Thiago Silva has revealed that his time at Chelsea is almost at an end.
Silva, 39, burst into tears following the Blues' FA Cup semi-final defeat to holders Manchester City on Saturday, with Bernardo Silva's 84th-minute strike proving the difference. The centre-back joined Chelsea under Frank Lampard in August 2020, going on to win the Champions League in his first season and later lifting the Club World Cup.
Having signed a new one-year contract towards the end of last season, Silva's current deal is set to expire in June. Reports have indicated that the former AC Milan and PSG defender's time at Stamford Bridge is up, and his post-match comments after Saturday's defeat at Wembley lent credence to that belief.
"You are going to know in the coming days," a dejected Silva revealed. "I don't want to say anything now after a defeat. I'm sad about the result, but sooner or later the news will come out. I do have a decision made in my mind, but it's not the moment to share it.
"It's not an individual sport, but my four years here were very good. Not that I didn't believe in myself, but with my age and the intensity of this league, it's rare to see players in a high level at 39.
"I don't like to talk about me, but you can see this. In the semi-final I was ready to play the extra-time! I can see I still have some years in me to keep enjoying football."
The 39-year-old also wrote on X/Twitter in response to the late defeat: "It is difficult to describe in words what I feel now. We are very sorry we didn't make it, we left everything on the pitch. Proud of this group. Thanks to all of you for never leaving us."
Silva's family were watching on at Wembley and his wife, Belle Silva, shared photos of them on her Instagram
