Romelu Lukaku has come under fire from Inter Milan legend and vice-president Javier Zanetti, who has claimed the Belgian striker has 'betrayed' the club.
Lukaku endeared himself to the Italian giants during a showstopping spell in 2021 that saw the club win their first Serie A title in 11 years.
However, after an unsuccessful return to Chelsea that summer for an eye-watering £97million, the 30-year-old enjoyed a less productive season at the San Siro during the 2022-23 campaign but had been expected to turn his loan into a permanent transfer.
But the ex-Manchester United front man appears to have angered all connected with the Champions League finalists after reports surfaced of his interest in a move to Juventus.
Zanetti, who made a scarcely believable 858 appearances for the outfit, laid into the forward for what he deemed to be unprofessional conduct.
'Lukaku has betrayed us.' he told Gazzetta dello Sport. 'We’re very disappointed. We expected completely different behaviour by Romelu, as professional but also as a man.'
Zanetti's outburst follows that of Lukaku's former strike partner Lautaro Martinez, who revealed that the Belgian stopped answering his calls during a pivotal point of negotiations with Inter.
'I was disappointed, it's the truth,' he told the Italian outlet last month. 'I also tried to call him in those days of chaos, he never answered me, the same he did with my other companions.
'After so many years together, after so many things lived together, I was disappointed.
'Thankfully, it's his choice. I wish him the best. But I didn't expect this attitude.'
