Portugal return to action when they face Slovakia in a European Championship qualifier on Friday, September 8.
Cristiano Ronaldo has been tearing up the Saudi Pro League since their 2023/24 season started last month, with six goals and four assists in Al Nassr's opening four matches. He leads the early-season Golden Boot standings from the likes of former Real Madrid teammate Karim Benzema.
Last time out for Portugal, Ronaldo scored the winning goal against Iceland as they took an important three points in Group J. They top those standings by two points, with their next opponents in second place.
Victory over Slovakia and Luxembourg next week will put Portugal in a strong position to reach the Euro 2024 finals, where Ronaldo will look to win the trophy for the second time after their triumph in France back in 2016.
The Sporting News takes a look at his availability and whether or not he will feature against Slovakia on Friday.
2023 Ballon d'Or odds: The favourites to win the prize
After a great start to the Saudi league's new season, and no injury concerns, it is expected that Ronaldo will start Portugal's match against Slovakia.
Portugal boss Roberto Martinez has started Ronaldo in every game since he took charge back in January. Ronaldo has repaid that faith with five goals in his past four games as part of a 100% winning start to Euro 2024 qualification.
The Al Nassr man also played the full 90 minutes in back-to-back games against Iceland, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
