L’Équipe are reporting that the company ‘Iconic Sports’, who partially helped finance John Textor’s takeover of Olympique Lyonnais, already wants to exit the investment.
It has not been easy for Textor and Eagle Football since their takeover of Lyon last December. As well as the ugly divorce with now-former president Jean-Michel Aulas, and the monitoring of the club’s transfer activity by the DNCG – French football’s financial watchdog, Lyon are also bottom of the Ligue 1 table after seven matchdays.
Whilst Lyon struggle on the pitch, things continue to seemingly worsen off of it. According to OL sources, ‘Iconic’ provided €75m to facilitate Eagle Football’s €800m takeover of Lyon last year. However, ‘Iconic’ now wants out, and is therefore looking for a reimbursement of the €75m that they initially put into the operation last year.
‘Iconic’ reportedly want to pull out of the club due to an agreement between themselves and Eagle Football that was not honoured. And are Eagle Football able to reimburse that sum? It is difficult to say given that Textor has not yet been able to sell all of the assets that he hoped to.
