Ireland will provide the opposition to Portugal in Aveiro on Tuesday, June 11 before Cristiano Ronaldo and Co head to Germany for the Euros finals.
The FAI had hinted at prestigious opposition to conclude the summer double-header but rather than Germany or Italy they will renew acquaintances with the Portuguese.
A late brace by Ronaldo, which made him the record international scorer of all time, denied Ireland a famous victory in Faro in September 2021.
Portugal are currently ranked seventh in the world and have Czech Republic, Turkey and a playoff winner awaiting in their Euros group.
The trip snaps a cycle of four straight home games for Ireland, starting with Stephen Kenny's swansong against New Zealand last November.
Home friendlies against Belgium and Switzerland on March 23 and 26 respectively had already been confirmed, with another Euros-bound side, Hungary, now visiting on Tuesday June 4.
The FAI has yet to appoint Kenny’s successor ahead of Thursday’s draw for the Uefa Nations League in Paris. Ireland will be part of League B, with games due to be contested between September and November.
