James Maddison responds to Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou criticism with brutal comeback
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder James Maddison has taken to social media to reply to criticism regarding his side's 4-1 loss to Chelsea on Monday evening. The two London rivals played out a hugely entertaining match in N17, with five goals disallowed, two red cards shown and a penalty given.
Spurs had taken the lead early on through club captain Son Heung-min before the home side were reduced to ten men when centre-back Cristian Romero was adjudged to have fouled Enzo Fernandez in the box. Blues playmaker Cole Palmer then converted the spot-kick before an unusual second half in which the Lillywhites were reduced to nine men after Destiny Udogie picked up a second booking for a poor tackle on Raheem Sterling.
Chelsea could have scored on multiple occasions, with Ange Potecoglou's men continuing to play with an extremely high defensive line despite the visitors having a two-man numerical advantage. Eventually, Blues frontman Nicolas Jackson scored three goals late on to clinch all three points for Mauricio Pochettino and Co.
Since then, Tottenham have received plenty of praise for sticking to their principles despite the sending-off, something some rival fans have voiced their frustrations with. Instagram page Sportbible has since posted an exchange between Chelsea legend John Terry and Spurs playmaker Maddison, with the pair sharing some banter on the result.
