Everton’s James Tarkowski has admitted that it was “difficult” at first to deal with the amount of shouting that Jordan Pickford aims towards his team-mates but he believes the pair of them have now developed a good understanding.
The goalkeeper can often be seen issuing instructions to his colleagues in animated fashion with Tarkowski often involved in the conversations but the Everton defender insists they are learning to make such talks productive.
Answering questions from fans in a feature on the club’s website titled: ‘My Inbox’, Tarkowski said of Pickford’s demonstrative style: “He does like to shout. I’ve got used to him over time.

“When I first started playing in front of him, realising how much information he needs to get across – every four seconds – it was difficult to take on board. But we’ve played a fair few games together now so we’ve learned to communicate well.
“He’s improved on his communication style and I’ve improved on my listening style. It’s quite a good partnership I’d say.”
Another of Tarkowski’s key partnerships is with centre-back colleague Jarrad Branthwaite, who has been Everton’s breakthrough star of the season. Even though Tarkowski was born almost a decade before his 21-year-old colleague, he admits he can still learn from the younger man alongside him.
He said: “I think from playing alongside Jarrad, I’ve seen how he plays so maturely and so calmly. I wish I’d have learned that so young as well.
