Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has posed a question about the quality of the Premier League title race.
The Reds have a two-point lead at the top of the table at the halfway stage of the season. Jurgen Klopp’s side reclaimed first place through their 2-0 win over Burnley on Boxing Day but could have slipped back to second if Arsenal had taken their opportunities on Thursday night.
The Gunners suffered a 2-0 defeat to West Ham United at the Emirates Stadium through goals from Tomas Soucek and Konstantinos Mavropanos. A win would have seen Mikel Arteta’s side move a point ahead of Liverpool but it proved to be yet another twist in what has developed into an intriguing battle at the top of the table.

Manchester City announced their return to league action, following their triumph at the Club World Cup, with a 3-1 win over Everton on Wednesday. However, the reigning Premier League champions remain five points off the Reds, albeit having played a game less. The back-and-forth nature of the burgeoning title race led Carragher to ask a pertinent question on social media.
“Is the quality of the Premier League better for teams taking points off each other, or having a couple teams who are a level above the others?” Carragher wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
