Jarrod Bowen is hoping he can get into the England team for the Euros in 2024 — and hopes his versatility can help him earn his place.
The West Ham player has scored 18 times this season and Gareth Southgate has now picked him for the England squad ahead of games against Brazil and Belgium. Bowen, 27, has been playing up front a lot but he also plays on the wing.
He did just that during West Ham's 5-0 Europa League win vs Freiburg and when they tied 1-1 with Aston Villa on Sunday. And Bowen thinks he can add something to the England squad going forward should he manage to hold down his place.
He said: «If I'm playing up front I've got Harry Kane and Ollie Watkins to get ahead of. But no, I've been picked on my form playing here and every time you go into the international break you have to do it with that mindset of doing what you've been doing at club level.
»Don't try to do too much, don't try to impress too much. I always think, for me personally, that can backfire on you. For me, it's going in with that same mindset and the same enjoyment of football. Go in there and try to impress. When you get your opportunity it's important that you take it."
Last May was the first time Bowen played for England and he's now earned five caps for his country. He wasn't chosen for the World Cup in Qatar but Bowen says he feels he can make an impact ahead of this summer's Euros.
