Jermaine Jenas makes 'strange' Ben White England claim and defends Arsenal star
Former Tottenham Hotspur star Jermaine Jenas has defended Arsenal defender Ben White for his decision not to be called up to the England squad.
Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate announced his squad last week for the upcoming international fixtures. England have friendly matches against Brazil and Belgium over the next couple of weeks, with both games taking place at Wembley Stadium.
Southgate confirmed after announcing the squad that White had expressed a desire to not be selected for the upcoming games for his country. The Three Lions boss explained Arsenal sporting director Edu confirmed the news to England, and the stance from White has led to criticism of the Gunners defender in sections of the media.
Three Arsenal players have been included in the England squad, with Aaron Ramsdale, Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice all featuring. For Chelsea, Conor Gallagher, Cole Palmer and Ben Chilwill are all included, while James Maddison is the only representative from Tottenham.
Jenas has defended the decision by White not to be part of the England squad. The former Tottenham star explained why White may have several of his own reasons for deciding not to be available for his country during the international break.
